About
It’s my personal site online. Isn’t that cool?
I made it all by myself using a static site generator and my extensive knowledge of English.
Who I am
Software engineer with background in
- Infrastructure / DevOps / SRE topics
- Software reliability modelling (graduate studies)
- Embedded systems development for broadcasting devices
- Hobbyist game development
- Teaching and mentorship
I’m an avid reader of blogs, software engineering papers and philosophy of all kinds.
Tools I like to use
I use Linux and OpenBSD for all my computering needs. I can use Windows for work stuff, but otherwise I’m not really a fan of it. Don’t take it personally, please.
About once a year I spend some time tunnel-visioning on shells, window managers, CLI tools and all that. My setup gets better each time!
My current setup leans on:
dwm
fish
kitty
neovim
with lots of plugins (learning about Go LSP stuff at the moment!)fzf
dmenu
&rofi
pass
Recently I swapped niri in place of dwm
. Setting up wayland
& pipewire
equivalents for everything was a bit of an exercise but not the end of the world.
I didn’t try playing any games yet but niri
is fantastic for everything else!
Other stuff I use a lot:
mpv
mupdf
qutebrowser
,chromium
,firefox
(in that order)- and a bit of
nyxt
when I want to be humbled
- and a bit of
texstudio
bat
,tig
,eza
,rg
,fd
,eva
btop
doas
gpg
with a nitrokey (because it’s cool to tickle a USB stick to complete my ssh auth)tmux

Name of this domain (apolytus.xyz)
The name comes from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows:
Apolytus: n. the moment you realize you are changing as a person, finally outgrowing your old problems like a reptile shedding its skin, already able to twist back around and chuckle at this weirdly antiquated caricature of yourself that will soon come off completely.
As it turns out, naming my site after an entry from that isn’t super creative - lots of domains are registered for other entries like agnosthesia, kenopsia and anemoia.
Make sure to go look up what those are and include them in your day-to-day vocabulary so we can recognize each other in public. It can be our little secret.
The .xyz
part isn’t special, of course, but it is cheap!
